A Series of Good Movies

Wherein Ryan sees a bunch of movies and laments about the Backpocket webpage…

I have had the pleasure of going in the past two days to two movies. One I paid for, and one was payment for helping a friend of mine do a website. The first movie was Ocean’s 12 which, for a sequel, really wasn’t bad at all. I’m very impressed with Soderberg’s treatment of the second film. It’s not just a rehash of the original story in a different setting. It’s definitely holds up on its own in terms of quality (though if you didn’t see the first film, you’d have no earthly idea whats going on.) All and all, a good experience. Yesterday I decided to go see A Series of Unfortunate Events which, while its definitely a children’s film, turned out in my opinion to be *excellent* in terms of writing, visuals and even acting. There’s this absolutely brilliant magical realism going on in that series, and now I’m compelled to pick up some of the books and take a read. Even the end credits were fantastic. They were done rather in the style of Edward Gorey.

Completely unrelated, The Project:Backpocket website is gone. That is to say the internship idea was successful enough that they are doing it again this year, so our page has been taken down. I do hope they find another home for it, since we put a lot into that page and I’d like to see it archived somewhere. Ah well.
